Aegis is a proponent of health risk-driven environmen­tal management. We have been instrumental in developing logical, rational, and economically efficient site remediation and control technologies that are consistent with the goal of protection of public health and the environment, but do not produce unnecessary cleanup or unnecessary economic hardship for liable parties. Our company is committed to site restoration approaches that are based on the need to protect human health and the environment, using the most scientifically appropriate, accurate, and realistic approaches that are available.

The regulatory reform that is underway has embraced the science of exposure pathways and risk assessment as one of its hallmarks. Programs in Indiana such as the Voluntary Remediation Program (VRP), Brownfield, and more recently the Risk Integrated System of Closure (RISC) all have incorporated elements of assessing the risk to exposure in establishing cleanup goals.

The ability to produce technically sound and defensible assessments has never been more important than it is in today's environment. The combined impacts of more regulatory scrutiny, restric­tive standards, and increasing public interest and involvement place a premium on high technical quality, good science, and the most modern, innovative, and realistic approaches to evaluating the potential for adverse human health or ecological effects. A well-defined site assessment coupled with human health risk assessment has become one of the most effective negotiating tools and defenses against unrealistically conservative cleanup standards.

Approach to Our Projects

We believe there are a number of aspects to our philosophy and capabilities that distinguish us as an environmental consulting source. These are noted below:

	Risk-Driven Site-Investigation Approach: Our planning focuses site investi­gations to be "risk-driven." This approach allows us to strategize, in a manner consistent with the goal of protection of public health and the environment, to identify the most efficient and cost-effective site remedy at the outset of the investigation. Our risk-driven approach prevents the collection of unnecessary field data and fosters a negotiating stance that minimizes the potential for major expansions of scope.
	Primary Attention to Realistic Approaches: The key limitation of the typical practice of site assessment is the naive use of guidance as legal directive and the simplistic use of inappropriate and/or overly-conservative cleanup goals or standards rather than approaches to estimate exposure and potential health risk. Our approaches are designed from the outset to address the basis of exposure and toxicology first in a simple screening approach and then, only if necessary, from a scientific literature perspective and site-specific realities.
	Senior Staff Capabilities: The Aegis team consists of a group of highly qualified and experienced professionals. It is our approach that a senior staff member will manage and be accountable for all aspects of a project, including quality of work and budget (time and financial). The senior project manager coordinates with other senior staff and project personnel to integrate these professionals into the project team when knowledge in their areas of expertise is needed. This provides accountability, a high quality product, and efficiency that our clients can rely on.
