UST Removal Process
If you have a known UST on your property or uncover an unexpected UST, it is essential to understand the correct management process.
The first step is identifying the UST location and collecting all relevant records for the tank. From here, we will notify the applicable oversite agency. Next, the UST will be removed, cleaned, and transported offsite for disposal. After removal, verification soil samples will be collected beneath the UST removal area and piping/dispensers (if they were present). If soil samples show impacts of contamination above regulatory guidelines, further assessment and potential remediation may be warranted. Remediation for soil impacts typically consists of soil removal.
The last steps require additional interfacing with the applicable government oversite agencies. A UST removal report will be submitted summarizing the initial research, removal, sampling, and remediation activities. If the UST qualifies for the Illinois UST Fund, we will apply for a reimbursement of owner’s costs associated with the removal and cleanup activities.
